It gets a little nippy here in the Midwest. 22 degrees this morning. Come February, 22 degrees might be a warm front, as it is not unusual for subzero weather here in the heartland.
So while most people are planning their holidays, what to serve for Thanksgiving, which sweater to get Uncle Fred, we’re planning our annual February “I can’t take this weather anymore” pilgrimage.
For many years it was a trip to the laid back Florida Keys. “Wasting away again in….”, ok we all know the song and the words, but the Keys has much more to offer.
Excellent diving and snorkeling, and fishing. Excellent food (you haven’t lived until you’ve had a conch fritter), and a great laid back atmosphere.
We broke that pattern a few years ago with a trip to Maui. I can write for days about Maui, and I probably will, but I won’t bore you now.
Then it was Mexico. Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco
What to do this year? Expense is always a factor, as we have a friends 50th birthday trip to Australia to budget for, so where should we go?
Your suggestions will be appreciated and I’ll keep you up do date on our research and decision!

That picture is great, especially when I’m looking at the outside temperature of 20 degrees…brrr.

I don’t know any fabulous places to vacation, but I am curious to watch where you go because I will be “vacationing” as I read about your vacation. Our vacations are usually local places with hot springs, camping, fishing, and biking.

Being from the midwest myself I have often dreamed of selling everything so that I could live the life of Rieley in a beaten down shack… what a pleasure it is to dream!

WOW - I want your blog photo as my screen saver! I immediately relaxed when I saw it.
Tahiti is wonderful, and on your way to or back from Australia. Also, on the more cheezy side, I also like Cancun and Puerto Rico.

I love the tropics! Our last trip was to the Mexican Riviera to a great resort called Aventura Spa Palace. Ahhhhhhh what a great time we had celebrating our 25th anniversary.

Nothing like a warm tropical breeze and the sound of surf and everything that grows is green. Looking forward to following you around tropical locations. Keep up the good blog work.

Man do I miss the beaches of Durban and Umhlanga Rocks. This cold Missouri fall is making me wanna pack up and head south just to do some body surfing in 5foot plus waves.

I once was lucky enough to tour the Exumas (Pikes Key, Stanley Key, etc.). Awesome underwater caves and some above water, large enough to build a home in.

That picture makes me homesick. Born and raised in Honolulu. I just got back from a trip to Victoria BC. Got to row a replica Spanish longboat around Sooke Bay. Beautiful place.

After looking at your blog two things:
1. I’m beginning to love the islands also.
2. Our blog so far just has the standard theme. Will change in the near future though.
Great job!F

I too love the beach, and am blessed to live less than 100 miles from the Pacific. I have never been to most of the places you describe, but I can’t wait to go.
I’ll make sure to check back here to see where the best tropical places to go are. You sound like a well-informed expert on the subject.

I would put Kauai in the running for an island to go to. It was amazing. The Keys are on my list of places to visit. I need to find my Lost Shaker of Salt.

I already miss the warm weather! Iowa just got 2 inches of snow but it is melting fast. See you in class!
